FAQs
What is Midwifery?
Midwifery means, “with woman” and embodies just that - coming alongside a woman throughout her life, from adolescence to pregnancy and birth and beyond. The midwives model of care, which views your life processes as normal - from birth to menopause, honors the normalcy of these stages of life and does not automatically intervene in them, but honor your body’s ability to give birth, conceive, go through menopause as a sign of health. It also means that I believe in partnering with you, you do after all know yourself and your body best, and helping you achieve your optimal health in that partnership.
Why use a Midwife?
Midwifery care has been shown to have many beneficial outcomes associated with it - reduced cesarean rates, lower rates of tearing, lower rates of needing pain medicine with no increased rates of neonatal and maternal mortality. This is even further supported in the home birth setting.
What do your certifications mean?
CNM stands for Certified Nurse-Midwife; this means I was originally an RN first and then went back to receive my advanced practice nursing degree to become a midwife.
CPM stands for Certified Professional Midwife; this is a certification designated by most community birth midwives, there are a variety of routes to becoming a CPM, for me it was being a CNM and gaining community birth experience.
Certified Doula - this means that one has extra training in labor support, to understand the mental and physical part of providing comfort and rest within labor, troubleshooting positions changes to assist with the birth of your baby and your comfort.
Do you assist in hospital births?
At this time, we only assist in hospital births in the role of a doula when needed, or for Alongside Care (high risk conditions or VBAC) birthers.
What radius or range do you take for homebirth clients?
We serve ~a 45 minutes radius from Hoover, AL (Bluff Park area). We take into account the address and distance from Magan and Hamilton’s homes to minimize missing births for clients.
