BIRTH ASSISTANT

Allison Slappey Zaiden, RN

I am a homeschool mom to my 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son, and I enjoy watching them absorb new information and learn new things everyday. When I’m not working or homeschooling, I love spending my free time on our tiny backyard farm with my chickens and goats. My nursing journey started 15 years ago in the ER of Children’s Hospital. After my daughter was born, I became fascinated with birth and everything related to it, and began my journey to all things natural. I started working in L&D at Brookwood three years ago, over which time I have met some amazing doulas and other birth workers who have inspired me to look at birth differently from solely the hospital setting. Through my experiences and interactions with these amazing workers, I became very interested in home-birthing, and being able to support the power of a woman’s body without medical intervention. My passion for educating, empowering, advocating, and loving on pregnant and postpartum families any way they need is immense, and I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to work along side Hamilton and the Aurora Midwifery team as I continue to learn as much as possible.

In the birth and postpartum space, Allison is intentional and caring and the epitome of informed consent - she never disrupts or disturbs while she goes about her role of upholding the family with confident peace. It is such a joy to work alongside Allison!

BIRTH ASSISTANT

Channing Taylor, RNC-OB

I’m a wife, a labor and delivery nurse, and a student nurse-midwife. I enjoy reading, hiking, swimming, gallivanting through the woods, and, on occasion, baking enormous, ostentatious cakes.

I have always been fascinated by birth and was further inspired to be a labor and delivery nurse by my uncle, who is a retired obstetrician. I started my journey as a labor and delivery nurse eight years ago at St. Vincent’s East. The closure of that labor and delivery unit in 2018 was the catalyst for my joining the beloved team at Princeton Labor & Delivery, which is where I met Hamilton and Magan for the first time. The truly inspiring care that Hamilton and the other midwives at Princeton provided to their clients is what made me realize that I had a very long way to go in learning and growing so that I could be part of this culture that respects and cares for the whole person and, to help create much need change for the birthing people of Alabama. Through my time at Princeton Labor & Delivery, I have been given the opportunity to work alongside some amazing midwives, doulas, and birth workers. I am thrilled to be allowed the opportunity to continue to work alongside and learn from these amazing people.

I have never been so humbled and honored to be a part of such an amazing team as the one that is Aurora Midwifery.

In the birth space, Channing is calm and confident and quick to provide assurance for birth givers. We are so thankful to have Channing as part of the Aurora team!
